Assault Reported on Long Trail in Vermont

Police are investigating an alleged lewd and lascivious assault on the Long Trail on Sept. 25 in the Bolton area.

According to a police report, a person said a man grabbed the person's chest. He was pepper sprayed to deter further advances and the man left the area, police said. The complainant was able to get off the mountain and notified authorities.

Police were told the man was white, about 5-foot-10, about 185 pounds with brown hair and a short beard and was in his 30s. He was reported to be wearing a green Carhartt sweatshirt, blue jeans, an orange hunting hat. He was last seen walking south on the Long Trail and it was reported he had reddish-orange residue on his face from the pepper spray.

Hiker dies on Long Trail in Vermont

A hiker from Indianapolis died while hiking the Long Trail in Vermont.

Michael A. Keethers, 57, died Sunday, Sept. 4 near the Peru Peak Shelter near Griffith Lake on the Long Trail in Peru, Vt., according to a news release by Detective Sgt. Eric Albright of the Vermont State Police.

According to the release, Keethers had become ill while hiking the Long Trail and become unresponsive. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
